Evangel Christian School maintains an active interscholastic athletic program that includes soccer, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading.  All students in grades 7 through 10 are encouraged to participate.

The sports program at Evangel provides a practical expression for the principles that are taught in the classroom. True character is demonstrated when under the pressures of life. Social, financial, academic and spiritual pressures comprise what we call normal Christian living. Before the student feels the full brunt of these demands, the athletic program at Evangel, through healthy competition, requires the student/athlete to deal with these pressures in a controlled environment and under close supervision. Our coaches not only train students to be better athletes but mentor the young men and ladies from God’s Word on the many parallels between the disciplines required to play well and the dedication God’s Word requires of the believer. The virtues of punctuality, preparation, hard work, and attention to detail reflect the discipline required to be part of a sports team. On or off the field or court, these are commendable virtues to be cultivated in a young person’s life.

At Evangel, we are committed to doing our very best in every area of life. Character is built when the student learns to be a good winner as well as when one learns to be a good loser, albeit our expectation if we do our best is to win the game by utilizing the talent God has given us to its full potential. By the grace of God, whether winning or losing, our goal is to always say at the end of the contest that we did our best and that we represented ourselves, our homes, our school and our Lord well.

Additionally, the Evangel sports program provides a context for families to gather, for family memories to be created and for parents to show their support for their student/athlete. We stand in the bleachers for an opening word of prayer thanking God for His Son, the opportunity to compete against a school of like precious faith and for Christian education. Then facing the American flag, with our hands over our hearts, the national anthem is sung reminding us of the blessing of living in the United States. We eat hot dogs and nachos, cheer for our teams, and thank God for our young people with sharp minds and strong bodies.
